Mars has strange glassy tubes that indicate they may have once have
been used to transport water and other goods. These may be the famous Mars canals when viewed through a telescope.THE US GOVERNMENT AND UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS
The NASA OFFICIAL FACT SHEET STATES: No branch of the United States Government is currently involved with or responsible for investigations into the possibility of advanced alien civilizations on other planets or for investigating Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO's). The US Air Force (USAF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have had intermittent, independent investigations of the possibility of alien life on other planets; however, none of these has produced factual evidence that life exists on other planets, nor that UFO's are related to aliens. From 1947 to 1969, the Air Force investigated UFO's; then in 1977, NASA was asked to examine the possibility of resuming UFO investigations. After studying all of the facts available, it was determined that nothing would be gained by further investigation, since there was an absence of tangible evidence. “

I'm not a scientist, but I have extensive intelligence and photo interpretation experience. I have examined the glass tunnel like structures on Mars to the best of my capability and see a 3D effect to the strange, tubes or tunnels generally located along the bottom of valleys. With limited equipment available to me, I feel they definitely need further study and analysis.
We now know that an international team of researchers has discovered compelling evidence that the magnetite crystals in the Martian meteorite ALH84001 are of biological origin. The researchers found that the magnetite crystals embedded in the meteorite are arranged in long chains, which they say could have been formed only by once-living organisms. Based on the assumption there has been life on Mars at least in the past, I examined the evidence as if I was preparing an intelligence report on the possible structures. A large tunnel structure was imaged by Mars Global Surveyor on August 11, 1999, at 39.12N 27.08W in fairly flat terrain. Within the area there are several deep valleys or channels probably caused by the movement of water in the past. These channels or canyons appear to be and average of 150 meters deep. They are now dry, but appear to have been originally formed by flowing water.
Within the depressions strange glass like structures appear to have been placed within these channels. The structures are tunnel like in shape and remind me of large tunnel structures built for subways or the tunnel goes under the English Channel. There are white ribbed or ring looking metal structures that appear to provide the main support for the glass or plastic. The rings or striations appear relatively evenly placed, bend in a uniform manner around turns. These are fairly evenly spaced at an estimated 60 meters or 200 feet providing the main strength to the structure.
A possible natural explanation for these tubes is that they may formed by some type of volcanic action on Mars. The tunnel system probably does connect or use the natural lava tubes that can provide low cost, ready-built enclosures for habitation. It is likely the entire planet is crisscrossed with lava tubes. Many seemed to be formed along valleys and natural low lying former river or creek beds. Once the volcanic tube is laid down water eventually flows through the tubes.
Cheryl York, president of the Oregon-based L5 Lunar Base Research Team claims that Mars has lava tubes 300 meters wide and may in some cases extend for hundreds of miles along the slopes of ancient shield volcanoes. The diameter of a lava tube is the function of the gravity where the lava flows -- with less gravity, you get very large diameters," York says. After testing lightweight plastic liners and construction methods in Oregon lava tubes, the team concluded that pressurized enclosures could be built by small crews at a fraction of the cost and effort required to build planetary habitats on the surface of Mars. Such habitats would provide thermal insulation and would protect people and equipment from damaging solar radiation.
Occasionally, the rings of the tubes appear to be anchored to the side of the channel to provide further support for the over all tunnel. Occasionally, the tunnel structures appear to overlap one another. The apparent size of the tunnels is quite large. The width ranges from 125 meters to 200 meters in diameter. (410 to 656 feet) The tunnel structures above ground are some three kilometers long running north and south and east. A set of tunnels meet and appear to dive further underground. Some areas around the tunnel seem to be excavated. At first the striations reminded me of some in Saudi Arabia in the Sief dunes but these are uniform with the prevailing wind. The tunnels change direction frequently, the striations remain constant with the change in direction ignoring the prevailing winds that appear to come from the north and west based on the lee side windblown sand and dust on the lee of impact craters.
Some of the tunnels appear to have been supported and there are indications of large pieces of earth moving equipment and construction. Again these are my own interpretations of activity. If we assume that intelligent aliens have had presence on Mars we can speculate on the function of these apparent structures. Water or liquids are likely transported at the base of the tunnel. Higher levels could support high speed rail line and a highway. Living quarters and areas for farming could be situated along the outer edges of the structure. When the Martian atmosphere thinned and the lakes began to dry up, the inhabitants built these structures to transfer water, and to provide a subway system for movement between underground outposts and create a habitat for the remaining life.
We can assume that an atmosphere apparently exists within the structures. When water is found it can be captured inside the tunnels. The apparent green growth of plants or moss on Mars may provide oxygen. The habitat is probably protected from Cosmic rays by a thin atmosphere, soil, and tube like structures. Other images from other areas on Mars show hints of similar tunnel like structures so we can speculate they extend underground for long distances. There is no apparent evidence of damage to the structures, Generally, they seem in good repair although there are craters in their general area. At the largest width of the main tunnel there is a dome like structure at the top. This dome is likely an observation post, since almost all the tunnel structure can be observed from this point. We can speculate that not all civilizations may choose to live above ground. Underground living provides warmer temperatures, access to underground aquifers, protection from the elements and potential enemies.
At the end of World War II a great deal of German manufacturing had gone underground. The Heinkel firm was producing 700 to 750 Volkjager HE-160 jet fighters per month underground using 2000 workers. It is difficult to determine if the tunnels are still in use. We may be observing the remains of an ancient civilization. Infrared photography generally not available to the public indicates numerous underground heat sources often in fairly straight lines.
Evidence from a Martian volcanic rock indicates that Mars magmas contained significant amounts of water before eruption on the planet's surface, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Tennessee and other institutions report in the Jan. 25 issue of Nature.
